Sabena, one of the library assistants, is taking the day off on Thursday, March 20th for “Macaron Day.” She is mad about macarons – just ask Chef Kir. Having done the “run” for four years, her plan like Napoleon’s at Austerlitz is airtight with a Tupperware box and ice pack and solid walking shoes, and then stops at 8 patisseries and more if she doesn’t pass out: MadMac, Macaron Café, FP Patisserie (Francois Payard, the organizer of the New York Macaron Day) at the Plaza Hotel and also at West 58th Street. Then onto Bouchon Bakery at the Time Warner Center and then a quick sprint to Epicerie Boulud where she might stop for something salted. After all this sugar, one needs a quick pick-me-up! Then a bus ride downtown to Rockefeller Center and the F train to the LES where Bisou Ciao awaits. Here, Sabena may indulge herself and get the famous salted caramel macaron. Then if she hasn’t melted from exhaustion, somehow she will make her way to Mille-Feuille Bakery and a last stop at Sugar & Plumm in the West Village.
By then, she will probably need a stretcher and a hot cup of tea to enjoy her macarons.
