New Year Resolution

Start that Dream Job with Creating Your Culinary Career by Ronald Hayes. This book covers every aspect of your next steps after graduation from career outlook (including salary) to goal setting, resume tips and interview questions. So check out this book and go in to your appointment with career services fully prepared. Make this the year you land your ideal position with your dream company.

Throw More Parties this year whether you prefer a big crowd or an intimate gathering. For aspiring mixologists who want to host wild cocktail parties we have Death & Co Modern Classic Cocktails written by David Kaplan, Nick Fauchald and Alex Day of the eponymous East Village bar. Modern Classic Cocktails doesn’t just list cocktail recipes, it walks readers through the how and why of selecting ingredients, tools and creating drinks. However if it’s cocktail recipes you’re looking for, you’ll find those too. From multiple versions of a classic Manhattan to the Flor De Jerez and many other originals.

If a small gathering with a few friends and something lovely in the oven is more your speed, check out Sunday Suppers: Recipes and Gatherings by Karen Mordechai. The suggested menus are all very different but share a focus on straightforward, no fuss food. Recipes include whiskey glazed ribs, truffled turkey and swiss chard and bone marrow gratin.

Waste Less is a resolution for those of us who find ourselves tossing veggies past their prime and filling the garbage with kitchen scraps after cooking a feast. The Kitchen Ecosystem: Integrating Recipes to Create Delicious Meals by Eugenia Bone offers creative suggestions for developing your own “perpetual pantry” as she has. Ms. Bone says there are 3 steps to delicious food; cook with fresh seasonal ingredients – preserving some, replace commercial products with homemade and prepare base recipes from the parts you usually throw away. Easier said then done right? Not so, with Ms.Bone’s easy to follow guide with simple instructions for every step of the way.

Eat Healthy seems to be on everyone’s list of resolutions year after year. Two of our new books offer recipes and advice to do just that. Clean Slate is both a cookbook and guide. Featuring instructions for a detox and recipes for juices and smoothies, light but filling dinners and snacks to meet cravings in a healthier way. Salmagundi is a whole book dedicated to salads. If you’re feeling bored with your standard tossed greens, pick this up for some major inspiration including Chinese smacked cucumber salad, Patatas bravas salad, the Pub Ploughman’s salad and spicy Sumatran fruit salad. Get out of your salad rut without giving up healthy fresh produce using salads from around the world.

All titles are on display and available for circulation in the International Culinary Center Library.
